When possible, adjust water chemistry through water changes rather than dosing or getting new equipment.
What are you using for test kits?
I tested some distilled water and came up with a pH of 7. I don't know exactly how this relates to your situation but it must mean something.

One thing I would look for is a possible drop in alk. Alk gets used up 20 times the rate of ca. So if there was any precipitation, alk could drop....
