    You really need an accurate test kit. Red sea, salifert are affordable and way better than API. If your not adding anything then calcium won't raise....

    None IMO. If your wanting an eel to get rid of your peppermint shrimp I'd strongly suggest not doing that. Remove them the old fashioned way.

    You really need to get a mag test kit. Magnesium creates the equilibrium between calcium and alkalinity. Let it come down on its own but keep testing...

    What's the calcium number and what's your magnesium at? High calcium can precipitate and cause unstable alkalinity in the tank.
