    Intro

    In general, your sump should be 1/2 the size if your display tank. So something around 40 gallon should work for you.

    In my 28 the water level is about 2"down and does fine with that. But much more and it probably wouldn't. Glad you at just confirmed the problem.

    Baking soda is the way to go. Mix it in RO/DI and slowly drip it throughout the course of a few hours. Raise it no more than 1.4 dKH/day IIRC.
