Ahh i see. If it's new and a brackish water tank, was the fish originally in freshwater? Could just be acclimation.
No idea, not a freshwater guy. Have you had your water tested lately?
Also, I have forgotten to put the lid on a couple times, salt gets hard. I break it up using a screw driver and all seemed good, even when harden.
I use Kent Marine salt. They used to sell in five gallon buckets, now its bags. I use the old five gallon bucket with lid to store salt.

Yup. I just clean it once a week. If I keep up with it I can control it. I have never tried any products to rid it.
