Green slimer is a very common variation
It's an LPS coral. They can reach out their tentacles at night to an inch or more. Take a peak after lights out.
Yeah, it's difficult to tell from the pictures. If it is splitting, it will have multiple nmouths like the photo below [IMG]

I would leave it. It will grow over the skeleton quickly; same with acros. I've experienced both from alk and sand settling.
What are you trying to accomplish here? Are you housing coral, is this a fish QT? Bulb changes to expensive? Looking for better color lighting?...

What kind of fish? large fish? i wouldn't classify 12 small fish in a 220 gallon as a large bioload.
