hey.... i had a maybe similar experince. my salanity is 1.025 and my meq was 5 and i lost all my zoos they slowly closed up and died every single...
if you had the rock out exposed to the air for a lengthy time the coraline that was on it would die off. dont worry it will come back.... i had none...

i have had a mandarin for over a year now and i never feed mine. I do however had a fuge and over 100lbs of live rock in my 90 gal dt.
just use acetic acid.... if you have acess to muratic you should acetic.
