The best way is the slow way. But yes, water changes with a lower salinity or RO/DI water will work.
Honestly, I would check your local Craigslist listings. You can find amazing units at cheap prices.
Throw in a handful of peppermint shrimp and you should have your reef tank back. All of those fish you mentioned could go in your reef tank.
I had one of those fixtures. I replaced them with ATI bulbs and only 2 of the 4 would worked on occasion. It also smelled like hot burning plastic....

Yeah, I think I will go ahead and start some water changes. I had success when mixing my own salt. I guess I'll go back to what works.
