I didn't like the salifert kit. My mag reads 1500 at times and it is picked up on the red sea test kit while the salifert kept giving me completely...
My guess is that they will eat your CUC and that is why they are labeled as not reef safe. if you have really large snails, you may be fine.

You might want to consider building screen tops for your tank made out of 1/4" clear mesh netting. Keeps fish in, lets light in and lets gas out....
