    I placed a small piece of "foam", like a mat that is used in a kids play ground. I glued it under the pump and I never heard anything ever again....

    Which pumps do you have? Most if not all pumps are quite, I dare to say that your impeller shaft and/or impeller are either dirty or worn/warpt....

    How often do you clean out the filter? If its in your budget and space, I do recommend a sump and a skimmer. A refugium would be even better, but...
