i have the same problem with my powder blue and dejardini going after my corals. i have caulerpa and chaeto growing in my fuge. it grows pretty fast...
i added live rock to mine which came with a load of snails and bristle worms. They seem to keep it relatively clean.

yes, if you bake it it is no longer live. if you have the money, i would buy it from your local LFS. i like to see and measure my rock before i buy....
i have heard of people using regular garlic. i have just used the liquid garlics that most LFS sell.

i agree with nasageek. don't let that damsel determine the rest of your fish. it will be harder to remove the fish later when you have more livestock.

i do 5 gallon changes two to three times a week. this equates to roughly 10% weekly.
if they were doing fine after you added them to the tank it was no longer an oxygen problem in the bag. it could be an oxygen problem in your tank....
