    Is this for your 75 gallon tank? If so, the 24 is way too big of a pump, however, reducing the flow on the return side of the pump will not damage...

    Your drain line is too small in diameter. Use 1 1/4" or bigger. I used to run a Mag 24 with a 1" return, because that's what comes off of the pump....
