    well do a 100% cleaning inside and outside of skimmer.. also take the pump apart, and make sure all airline are 100% cleaned.. thats about it..

    if its internal sump model, you could get a tall tuperware bin and put in next to the sump.. just make sure the tub/bin is tall enough to hold 6-10"...

    from what I read cyano is actually a bacteria not a algae.. if you have high levels of organic matter in tank it will feed off of that and light....
