    I believe that's for an Aqualifter or similar pump, to prevent an air bubble from building up in the overflow.

    Nope. You don't need anything like that. You really don't need it anywhere on the overflow or drain.

    I would personally leave it at least 24 hours, to let the PVC cement dry. It's 24 hours for full cure. Also, welcome to 3reef!
