    Only other option is to install a HOB overflow But the ones you buy on line suck as a rule never drain enough and way over priced the CPR is a PITA...

    In a community F/W tank I never used aquarium but un-iodized Table salt at 1 Tbls per 5 gallons keeps their slim coat good and lowers the problem...

    The hood acts as a plenium and the air should be pulled from the inside to blow towards the outside ..The Fans have a little arrow.
