I would do the brs bruh. I have heard nothing but good things about them.
Make sure your other parameters are in check. i.e. pH, Calcium, Alk. Maybe a water change to lower your nitrates.

It is an i-TECH skimmer. The LFS where I purchased it builds them. They have a contract with Tunze and they use their pumps inside of them.
I put the sand in there the day I read your post. They were living there also. I just hope my refractometer not being calibrated didn't play a role.
