One to two degrees doesn't seem to bother anything too much which also seems to be the default range of most heaters depending on ambient conditions....
You're probably best off glueing over a bit of the skin to give it some stability.
That is a very odd place to be popping new heads at. You could try to cut that piece in half between the two ends, but you run the risk of cutting...
