    I see where you are coming from but I don't see designer clowns as a problem. At least they are captive bred. I don't think it would cost much more...

    A TDS meter is a critical piece of equipment in my opinion. Without one you are just guessing at your water quality. They aren't that expensive...

    Mangroves

    In a purely functional refugium they don't really have a place. They suck up magnesium and chaeto removes more nitrates. They look better though.
