    What's my best option to prevent a spill? Twice now, my overflow drain has been slowed down (algae?) enough to cause the display to trickle a gallon...

    That's true, but it seems to me that most people end up upgrading to something else after 3 years or so anyways. Same goes with LEDs.

    I'd let it be. 13 isn't too high. Alk shifts are more stressful than higher alk., ime. I would let it come down slowly and naturally.
