    Leaking 75 gallon tank...

    If thats true you probably have very little infauna left.lol Silt and silica will not cause an ammonia spike unless its old sand.

    Diatoms consume the silicates then eventually starve.It happens in most young systems.A picture of the stuff would help id it.
