    Have you tried some garlic with the food to get the firefish eating better? Definitely do water changes once a week to limit nutrients in the system.

    I would do 4-6 hours of acnics only. This should keep your fish on some type of day night schedule, while limiting light for the algae to feed on....

    It's mostly personal preference. You should run your lights between 8 and 12 hours. If your viewing time lines up with how long your lights are on...

    I run an Odyssea 20k. It gives the coral an amazing glow, and when mixed with 10 tubes it gives everything a nice white mix.

    What you need to do is run a reduced light cycle until the GHA dies off. You will then be able to get an honest reading on nitrates and phosphates...

    Since you don't have any fish, I would run acnics only while it's your tank viewing time. Your fish shouldn't mind much.

    lights look brighter than normal

    Definitely sounds like the bulb is going bad in some way. The color shift is most likely going to make algae very happy. -Mike
