    Nope that's the other good part about mangroves. They don't need substrate to grow. If you put any kind of mud or sand in that filter it will fall...

    Yep go with mangroves. They don't need much room for there roots to suck nitrates out of your water.

    That would work fine as long as you have some spill over light from your main lights. It takes them a very long time to grow into trees. Im growing...
