    First I would look at the SWC 250A. I would get it just for the Askol pump. It will be a bit tight at 24" tall, and a little tight in a 15x15. $750...

    That "play" in the shaft is necessary for it to start moving. Sort of lik e a hammer. It has to hit it to get the pin wheel moving because out motors...

    So.... Ceramic is used because it won't wear and will last probably the life of the pump. Except they break easy. Some high end/better pumps use Ti....
