So I had a day with nothing to do a few weeks ago and decided to use spare parts to build a 1 gallon pico tank. The tank was some old plastic petsmart thing a friend gave me years ago, but it holds water. It took the whole day to make everything for it and put it all together, but was running by the next morning.

I started using some scrap acrylic and left over led parts from an old build to make a 3 x 3W led fixture.

I used a heat sink from a trashed computer and a tiny cheap ebay led driver i have had for a while. Its inside the DC converter case, which the actual converter removed.

I mounted that with a acrylic arm that is bolted to the tank with nylon bolts. (theresa metal screw in the picture, it was temporary) That was all sealed with silicon.

The filter is a hang on filter with a broken pump, so I modified the chamber into a tiny refugium. Then made a tiny submersible pump to be an external pump.

Lastly I used some more scrap acrylic to make a corner outflow cover that also holds a little carbon. Then painted it and the LED blue.

Its been running for about two weeks. The last two pictures are from today. Lots of diatoms and I still don't have a tiny scrapper for the sides. The chaeto is growing much quicker than I thought it would in such a small compartment, so hopefully that will filter efficiently. I'm planning on puting some paly's and zoa's in another week or so just to see what happens.
