Cjiggajess- thats what i ended up doing for my first water change and whats your name? your forum name is hard to remember to spell lol

and chelsea i honestly dont know but i used 8 of the white panels on a 5 gallon shallow tank i did once (thats why some of them have signs of corrosion) for about 6-8 months and they kept everything happy and growing so i would assume that 4 whites and 5 blues should keep everything just fine in this tank

update time!!! lol so i did a good bit to the tank last night. the first waterchange was done, i added another tiny cerith snail, 2 small hermit crabs,5 or 6 little astrina starfish, and one of 3 of the mini dartfish gobys. the other two of which will stay in a container in my other tank for a few days so i know itll be ok to put them in the pico and here are the pictures

here are the group of astrinas i collected from my friends tank a few went into the pico and the rest went into my main tank. [IMG]

here are a few pics of the first mini dart fish that will go in the pico in the container that i dripped him in. you can see in the first pic how small he is compared to my fingers. either that or i have giant fingers lol [IMG]

    really amazing pico build!

where did you find those cool tiny LEDs? Radio shack has a lot of Diodes for sale but nothing that small, and I also do not think they have them in the proper wattage & color spectrum.

I think the bumblebee shrimp can also be fed small meaty items, or even maybe a bottom-feeder tablet that's been cut in half. also i bet they would eat some brine shirmp if you were able to "anchor" a piece to the substrate for them to crawl over to

You're DIY live-rock looks really good too! I will have to do that sometime with all my rubble and smaller pieces. Also my LFS will give me small pieces of LR for free - I could probably make some really cool rocks just like yours. Looks great!

Look into red banded Shrimp goby/randall's pistol shrimp combo. They are very fun to watch and would be perfect for your tank.

The only thing i would even think pf putting in a 1 gallon tank would be shrimp or crabs. I doubt a fish would survive

lol i just posted that basically. I love my hi-fin red banded shrimp goby and randall's pistol shrimp. they are sooo fun to watch even though they do not do much besides sit and eat and the shrimp builds his rock collection and borrow. but I think would be perfect for your pico. Also I've seen dwarf pipefish that look amazing to watch. not sure though if they would be slightly too large for a 1g

I'm interested in learning this as well.

I've got a little 5 gallon that's been sitting in my closet for close to a year that's in desperate need of some lovin'.

If you can tell us where you got them I might just have to steal your idea :)

hey guys sorry it took so long to respond i got busy yesterday but anyway you can get those little leds on ebay pretty cheap the white ones are about a buck each and the blue ones are a little more expensive but if you look hard enough you may be able to find them at a decent price. they're made for cars but they work great for this application and it takes hardly any modification to get it to work all you need is a 12 volt wall adapter i'd recommend getting one that's at least 1 amp if you want to run several of these. i've found in my experience that 1 amp at 12 volts will safely run between 8 and 10 of these. on some drivers if you use more than that they end up blinking because theyre drawing too much power but on a good driver they'll just dim a little bit. heres a link for the whites and the blues feel free to steal away im glad im not the only one who finds my ideas usefull and jlongwell if you end up using these and need help or ideas just let me know im glad to help.

and ashevillan i like the goby and shrimp combo i had some in my 20 long for a while but i just didnt like the amount of sand the pistol shrimp moved around so i got them out and even tried them in a 2.5 gal pico that i modified to have a built in "sump" for carbon and the pump and stuff but it was just too small and i would love to get some of those dwarf pipe fish they look cool but i think youre right they would probably be too big for that little one gal, it would be like putting a full grown naso tang in my 20 long lol
