It has now just been 1 day over a month since I started my tank. I have been able to successfully keep everything in check and running smoothly. I have had a damsel going strong, he is on his 2nd week in the tank.

I'm wanting to add something to the tank, and I am looking for suggestions...

Things that have crossed my mind..
-A snail or two, I have not had any algae, but I see a yellow/brown spot or two in a spot of the sand.
-Hermit crab (safe with fish? corals?)
-Peppermint shrimp ($8. It's cheaper than a cleaner)

Any other ideas would be welcomed!

I would get a cleanup crew in, for sure. Snails (get a variety, maybe from reefcleaners.org; they will hook you up with a custom crew for your sized tank), maybe hermits (only a couple varieties are reef safe. blue leg, and I'm not sure of the others, but make sure to look into the habits of any species you're considering before buying. do research online, not at the store.).

As for the peppermint shrimp, I would be careful to make sure it's a real peppermint and not a camel shrimp. They're very easy to confuse, especially if you're getting it from one of the larger chains. Camels are destructive towards a reef, and can possibly kill nearly anything you would put in the tank.

Peppermint shrimps are a little cheaper than cleaner shrimp but they hide in the rockwork and just come out at night? I never see mine. Cleaner shrimp are very comical and my old one even fed out of my hand. They have a fun personality and I would suggest the cleaner shrimp. +1 on the suggestions for the cleanup crew as well.
