    I was not sure if cleaning the sand was beneficial or not. I have been fighting hair algae for a couple months now due to a bad DI filter. I have tested the phosphates and they read zero. Trates are at 15 which is a bit high I know. So I thought by cleaning the sand it would get rid any bad stuff. I know once I put it back in, anything that was in the sand will be all stirred up and in the tank possibly causing a big spike in nitrate or something.

    Just want to do it right and not have any problems is all.
