Hi, I currently have a 29 G tank set up for SW and just added my first coral frag yesterday. Well, I have a 10 G just sitting empty, and I was wondering if I could do anything with it? Is it too small to set up as a SW, would I need a protein skimmer? I was thinking maybe just LR and inverts? Anyone have suggestions or ideas. It seems a pity to just have the tank sit empty.

Yeah you could set up a little nano tank or even just a frag tank.
A skimmer is not necessary if you keep up with water changes but you should get one. There are some neat little nano skimmers available.

Mantis tanks are becoming increasingly popular, and everyone seems to enjoy those.

You could use it as a sump tank for filtering the 29 gallon. Just a thought.

10 gallon reef, for Zoanthids - aquacultured , various colours
they look cool once the Zoas have started colonising all the available rock rock

couple of small fish and or couple of shrimp for activity

regular water changes, chemical filter media in a HOB and no need for a skimmer IME

How about a ten gallon with a divider for filtration on one side. That way you can build a little in-tank fuge. Put it on a reverse photo period and wallah, stable PH, filtration, whatever you need.

Yeah, you have many choices with even a 10g, as stated above. You could make it into a sump for your 29g if you don't already have one. Or a mantis tank, which is what I am doing with mine; frag tank for your 29g; or a small reef tank even, just do weekly water changes at 10%, and maybe some nano powerheads, and you won't need a skimmer. Obviously a HOB filter. This is the rout you seem to be interested in.
