Hi guys and girls! I'm new to the sight so thought I would kick it off with a build thread!

I have posted a thread in the Say Hello section, thought that was kind of neat.

So here I will be journaling my upgrade to ten gallons!

I decided that I should upgrade my tank because of a newly acquired Purple Dottyback and make more room for more corals!

    What I have so far:

-I bought a 10 gallon tank from Petco, along with some fine sand they had, silicone (some reason they only had black)

-I ordered Nova Extreme SLR 24" from Petmountain

-I'm using an old Rio 1100+ for the return

-And I had a sheet of acrylic laying around.

What I did was made a false wall on one end to make a peninsula tank and a baffle about 2 inches off the bottom of the tank. I decided I wanted to go with the flat overflow instead of the teeth because I didn't want to have to fix it to allow the right amount of flow through.

Only question is if the Rio 1100+ (rated at 382 GPH) is too much flow for the tank. I only have a picture of the finished tank, right not it is running with tap water at home to check for leaks.

I will be moving everything in picture 1 into picture 2

Sweet! is it all possible to put a ball valve in there somewhere. that way you can tune it to your liking. Maybe something likeThis.

Thanks! That's a nifty idea! Maybe my LFS has some Loc-Line available. Don't really want to buy $10 of stuff and pay the shipping.. :p

What will you be doing for a filter/media?

Thanks! It has been fun with the 3 gallon so it's time to expand. Should have everything transferred over this weekend I hope.

For the filtration, I decided to go for the flat overflow instead of teeth. And the water will flow into a Nanocube 28 media basket I have laying around. There will be filter floss on the top and chemipure elite in the middle. I forgot to add one more baffle to create a fuge, so I might put that in place with just super glue gel.

I have built 3 AIOs in the past 1 1/2 years. 2 of them were 20gal and one is 75gal. The 20gal tanks were very very hard to keep stable.
Good luck with the build I'll keep watching.
BTW why 10gal and not 20gal?

Simply just the available space. Our dorms have a limited amount of space and I needed a tank that would fit on top of my desk without having to build or buy a stand. Otherwise I won't have much room in my room.

I've had the 3 gallon tank about 6 months and had near perfect water parameters. So if I could keep a 3 gallon stable, a 10 gallon would be easy.
