    Hi and welcome. There a lot of ideas here in the DIY, lighting, newbie, general, and show off your fish tanks forums. If you research there, I think you'll find the best setup that will work for you. Have fun!

    Yeah, there are many options for setting up any type of tank, especially a ten gallon.
    I currently have a marineland canister filter on my 37 that works well, as well as a hob filter. Look in to t5 lighting. Just tossing out ideas.

    sergstang, if your looking for something that will give you less problems, I would suggest a bigger tank ?
    the bigger the tank the easier it is to maintain consistent parameters
    if you are stuck with a 10 due to space constraints - as the guys suggested, check out the show of your fish tank thread as there are some 10 gallon set ups on these
    Damsels R cool has one and he converted his HOB into a fuge

    10 gal. will be fine. There are two trains of thoughts on larger water volume and lesser volumes.
    Smaller tanks are good to get your feet wet (pun intended) and are relatively inexpesive.
    You get your training on a smaller tank and transfer that knowledge and experience when you want to go larger.
    To take a lot of the headache out of trying to figure out what to purchase,
    may I suggest looking into a 14 gal. Bio Cube by Oceanic. They are an all in one unit.
    I have one and am very happy with it. You will be able to keep soft coral (what beginners should try first)
    and then even some species of LPS. Here is alink;

    I set a little 10 gallon up for my gf, had a aquaclear 30 HOB that we ran polyfilter thru and a heater. 40 watts of pc lites with live rocks and sand and tank did awesome. Defintitely was inexpensive and looked awsome.
