I don't know how I missed that..i've read through that little article numerous times. Looks like you're right. I take it that the antennal scales are just the antennas? they're definitely orange. Some other pictures I have seen were blue so i'm guessing that's what they're referring to. K+ to you

Edit: I don't know how well the whole mating thing would go. I think it would end up with only one of us having a mantis haha

Well I stopped by the LFS on my way home from class to get a damsel to put in this tank. The mantis had lived with a fish before (royal gramma that was kind of unhealthy and died of non-mantis shrimp causes) so I thought it would be fine.

    No.

As soon as that thing hit the water the mantis was all over it. It lived for approximately 4 seconds. Poor guy.

I may try again in a few days and add the fish at night. I think the mantis is getting used to me just dropping food in. If it's already there when he wakes up maybe he won't mind it.

Nice mantis! I've been really considering one but am afraid LOL. I didn't read every post in your thread so this might be a dumb ? but doe he use the pvc den or did he build his own?

It's not his..er..her main den, but she cruises in and out of it all of the time. Mine is a Gonodactylaceus ternatensis. They bore out holes in big chunks of coral and use that as their dens. She actually did this to a piece of live rock in the tank and uses that as her primary den. Different species though may use the pvc as their main den though. Just depends if they if in the sand or rocks. This is an awesome site that has great info on a lot of different species. Definitely go for one! My 10 gallon couldn't be easier to maintain. You could get by with looking at it once a week and everything would be fine.
