its begun! i tore out the baffles from the 20gal sump that i had laying around. threw some rock in there to see what it'd look like. cut the hole in the wall, and put up a temporary shelf to place the tank on (will need to goto home depot they're closed atm to get lumber to build this properly).

its gonna be neat. ill start a thread as soon as the friggin camera batteries charge.

hows your lil dude doin? what kelvin lighting are you utilizing again? i know they need low lighting conditions so is a straight actnic t8 fine? (i have a spare t8 fixture)

Awesome! Can't wait to see the thread.

I'm using just the standard fixture that comes with a 10 gallon hood with one 15W actinic bulb. Nothing fancy at all. Successfully keeping some mushrooms and candy cane under it too. (although I think the candy cane is merely surviving lol)

These mantis guys are so neat. :) I have a 10g FW with just one danio in it. This makes me want to switch it over to saltwater for a mantis. :) It's in my bedroom, which is kind of cool too. My main tank is in the living room.

I'll upload a picture of all the parts of a mantis. Its from revisions of the Australian stomatopod

The A2 scale is otherwise known as the antenna scale. It is the feathery looking things that hang on either side of their face.

Do it! They're a lot more entertaining than FW fish IMO.

Very helpful! Definitely a male then because they are bright blue. Thanks stepho.

Just found this thread through the stomatopod club. I love your mantis he is beautiful! Mine is a bit drab in color atm. Here's to hoping he brightens up after a molt!

Well, my danio died a few weeks ago. :-/ Woke up and turned the light on. It's tail was caught in the HOB filter intake, belly deflated. I have since turned that tank into a quarantine tank for my 29g. It's currently cycling. I still want a mantis sometime in the future. :)

Thanks! Mine's color drastically changed after it's first molt (under my care at least). I'm sure yours will change a little too.

Sorry about your danio..I think a mantis would look much better in there though ;)

My little guy has been doing good. I am away for the summer in Little Rock and my girlfriend is tending to the tanks. Everything possible has gone wrong on the reef, but the mantis tank is looking wonderful.

Glad to hear your orange spot is still doing great! I haven't been so lucky lol. Your comment about coming home from rnr to a out of whack reef is just reinforcement of my belief I'll never have another vacation for the rest of my life. LOL I want to go to MACNA in Orlando so bad but I just don't trust my tank in the hands of someone else. :)
