Smaller tanks can be very hard to do. The reason why is the small water volume, things change very fast. Not saying it cant be done but if possible I would recommend a bigger tank for a beginner. Just my 2 cents. As for corals start with some softies, zoas, mushrooms, ect. Your only going to be able to get 1 maybe 2 fish in that small of a tank. Depends on size of the fish.

Sending our members to a competing site is not necessary seeing as we have quite a few calculators on 3Reef as well. Link removed :)

what size tank do u recommend? I dont want a monster huge tank, space and cost wise. I want the smallest tank that isnt too small and fairly easy to do. I dont mind taking it slow at first to make sure I am doing things correctly. I just want a small tank setup until I move until my new place where I will then make a huge tank set up I just want to get familiar with what I am doing...

It can be done. Many people have started with small tanks, me included. Just read up all you can. Make sure you understand the water chemistry involved with saltwater tanks. That's the hardest part of small tanks, if things go bad they go bad fast in a small tank. But if you do your homework and take it slow you can do it. You could even get an all in one tank like a 29g biocube. Their good starter tanks.

Also Biocube has a 14g version that I see a lot of people use. But there are other brands of all in one tanks too.
