I would put the HOB skimmer on the section with the drain, TBQH.

Just Carib Sea Live Sand Original grade 40lb bags (2 of them) as it was the cheapest argonite sand I could get living in NY (at least 2 hours from the ocean). I used about 10-15 lbs for the fuge and about 40 more for the tank. I still have about 25lbs remaining in the 2nd bag that is now dry sand. The live sand label is BS, unless you scoop it out yourself straight from the ocean. Then it is really live sand with worms and tiny crustaceans.

Oh. He was proposing a 3 chamber sump. I was saying the skimmer should go on the chamber with the "skimmer drain", rather than the return chamber. At least the output from the skimmer should be there. That way, you get the bubble protection of the baffles he mentioned.

Oh, just regular argonit. That's what I will have in my DT too. I thought so, but wasn't sure if there was anything special for the fuge. What do you think about that expensive "mineral mud" ?

That clears it up. Thanks Raven.

Mineral mud is pretty much an iron-rich substrate that helps algae grow faster. Very fine grained, so it gives an anaerobic layer in less depth.

It means to have your return nozzle(s) close to the water level as possible, so a siphon doesn't occur causing the sump to overflow.
