I have 4 x 1,600 gph JBJ Oceanstream with the Oceanpulse wavemaker. I have the powerheads paired with each wavemaker on opposite sides of the tank (1A and 1B are on the same wavemaker. same with 2A and 2B). I have them on a 30 second cycle. I stagger the start by about 10 seconds. The action it gives is about 20 seconds of high flow in the back, then 10 seconds pushing right to left, then 20 seconds of high flow in the front (but it's a lower high flow because of the distance), then 10 seconds pushing of left to right, repeat. Gives it a nice random water flow throughout the tank.

I'm having good success so far with stylo, monti, and birds nest SPS. With those powerheads and that arrangement, I think you could do just about anything in your tank. If it turns out you need more flow than that, just turn off the wavemaker. :)

I've had very good luck with these pumps and they cycle very quietly with the wavemaker. Zero clicking noise when cycling on and off.

Great feedback! Love the idea of the offset powerheads with the wave makers. I'll look into those.

Are you using two duo wavemakers or just one quadra?

I'm using two duos, but that's because I grew into this via trial and error on powerhead placement. If I did it over again, I'd do a quadra.

So got quite a bit done over the weekend on my "to do' list.

    1. Removed the silicone hack job done by the PO and siliconed where needed. Also removed all of the silicone residue from the all-in-one overflow that I yanked out.
    2. Mocked up the overflow to lay out the drain holes for drilling.
    3. Drilled all of my overflow holes. Took about 25 minutes per hole, dang 1/2 glass lol. Still waiting on my 35mm bit from BRS so I can drill the two return holes, they accidentally sent me a 30mm instead of the 35mm so they had to ship it out separate.
    4. Tossed the 20L into the stand for mockup and layout of the chambers so I can start planning on where to layout the glass for the return, drain and refug sections.

Nice progress and good beer! :)

I like the fuge layout. My only thought would be to feed the fuge off the return pump rather than from the overflow. It will minimize the detritus in the fuge and reduce the risk of it becoming a nitrate factory.

Pretty productive day today. Got the return holes drilled and 2 coats of paint on the back. Went with the Rustoleum Royal Blue instead of the black I was initially planning on. Think it's going to look really nice once I get 2 more coats on. Also the wife and I took some time to mock up our rock work. Liking how it's looking but we may change it. We'll see.

Paint is a little darker than it looks in the pictures.

Couple pictures of our rock mockup. The cave is in the middle of the back. Thoughts?

Great looking rockwork. You will want the bubble trap on the other side of your skimmer to contol the bubbles before they get to the return pump.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll make that change. Would it make much of a difference to just expand the drain chamber and put the skimmer there?
or should I keep thw skimmer in its own chamber but just move the bubble trap?

Thanks! Hunted Craigslist for months for one since its going in the nook of the stairs to our second floor we really wanted a corner tank like this for the space.

Id put the skimmer in the drain area. That would allow a larger fuge. And you may want to consider another bubble trap on the fuge side. The large drop off is going to cause bubbles
