    It's mostly for the clean lines and over all look.
    I like to look down into the water. My old tank with a big canopy that was hard to do. There are plenty of disadvantages people "put up with" in exchange for a nice modern/uncluttered looking tank.
    Water can splash out easier.
    Snails can crawl out easier.
    Fish that are jumpers can jump out easier.
    Not as strong as a braced tank.
