    If you test and maintain your parameters accordingly there should be no reason for the coral to look drab or not open. Waiting till things look bad to do a water change doesn't seem like a good way to maintain stability. Maintaining stability is key to keeping corals healthy.

    I guess i misspoke what i meant to say. To elaborate, i can test all of my levels right this second if i borrow some kits and ill bet money that they are all spot on. What i do is have a set maintinence schedule for which i have set to regulate my tank. I do my water changes, dosing and such from what i have observed from my tank. I dont need or use test kits because i know what i need to do dosing wise etc by prior observation. If your tank has never had any issues since you started because you "test your water" i call BS on you. everyone has ups and downs with their coral. everyone.
