Man, I live in Washington and I start to boil in my own skin at 70. I sleep with the fan on and the window open during the winter. ;D It averages about 38-40. But at least I don't have to worry about over heating my reef 8):)8)

I guess I may try 2x150 on a 65 gallon. I just hope it does not get too hot...

Hello, I did a search for a 100W HQI fixure and ran across this post. I'm sure it's too late by now, but Hamilton lighting has a 100w HQI hang on tank fixture. I am planning on getting one tomorrow for my 20G tank, I figured 70W won't be enough, and 150W will be way too much for such a little tank. I hope this helps. :)

Welcome to 3reef Mike! I wouldnt buy that. It will not be enough light and will add a lot of heat to your tank. I would reccomend a minimum of 150w MH or a T5HO fixture. I would use the Nova Extreme T5HO on that tank...

I really wouldn't worry about heat. there are always ways to deal with the heat problem. I have a 656w over my 46 g tank and i'm fine. I just run two computer fans in the back corners and have a open top. I would go with the 2 250w mh, they work great and then you have plenty of room to upgrade to add more advanced things in the future :D

Thanks! I ended up not getting that fixture since the bulbs are so rare. I was going to get the 150W HQI, but they said it may be a bit too much for my FOWLR tank. I ended up getting a 70W HQI instead. It came in damaged, so I'm waiting for a replacement still. :-[

they exist. they just aren't popular because usually people that want halides want high powered ones. also there are 70 watt moguls
maybe its the other way around with 100 watt moguls and 70 watt hqi

did I miss what you were keeping in this tank, 2 x 150 HQI would be plenty for that tank. Heck for a 36" tank you could go with a 1 x 150w HID with 2-t5 HO and you could keep just about anything
