It has been quite a while since I've posted. Yesterday I moved my tank from one house to another, and the move went well. Though I realized that a clean up crew was certainly more than over due for my tank. So today I purchased a blue legged hermit crab as well as a bumble bee snail.

As you can see there is more than enough algae to go around. These two went right to work cleaning. Hopefully later this week I will be able to pick up several more cleaners to clean up the tank.

Regardless of how many shells you provide, if hermits want to kill a snail they will! LOL I provide my 8 hermits with 14 shells all different sizes and they still killed and ate all 6 of my margarita snails and my turbo snail... half the time they didn't even take the shell!!!!! I noticed that my hermits didn't touch my 2 Astrea Snails, so I picked up 3 more to see, and so far about a week later all the astreas are still perfectly fine. I have a love-hate relationship with hermits LOL

Technically yes, but either way they have been in the tank for about 6 months now with no ill effects and I have seen much worse overstocking before. I think if it isn't broke don't fix it. LOL
