10gal Sump for a 75gal Tank????

    i have a 75 gal tank with a fluval fx5 filter and i wanted to get my skimmer and heater out of my tank. i have a 10gal tank i dont use any more and i want to know if it was big enough to make into a sump if not i wanted to still use it as a sump just to get my skimmer out of the tank and heater. what size pump do i get and what size overflow do i get to make it? any ideas

    i think it would be a pain unless you have a auto top off also if you get a bigger skimmer it probably wont fit. but i suppose its just a regular tank and can always be switched easily.

    i have an auto top off now with my kalk doser i just add water to my bucket i have under my tank now.

    then by all means i think it would work. just buy a pump around 6 or 700 gph. im sure you could get more exact if you know you overflow flow rate.

    if you plan on upgrading you can buy a very powerful one and put a valve on the line

    edit: i recommend put a valve on any way you will use it eventually

    so you match your overflow gph to your pump right? and what would i be putting the valve on the pump or overflow

    put it on the pump that returns the water to the tank.

    don't put it on your overflow it would be disasterous

    you want them in the same ball park.
    but you will lose some power from gravity.
    so the pump should be a little stronger.
    if you install a valve you will be able to control the flowrate of the pump. so you can adjust it to the exact strength for your tank
