I have a 120 gal that I'm considering converting to salt.
I already have a Fluval FX5 (925 gph) that works great for fresh and I'd like to use it in combination with 120 lbs of live rock and a top of the line prot skimmer and two power heads. Lighting is a nice 60" 1072 W halide recommended by a 3reefer.
My goal is to have hardy fish, inverts, and corals...nothing too exotic.
    Will my set up work?
What media should I put in the canister?

Your set up sounds like a great start. If i used a canister filter again id incorporate the use of poly filter pads and some carbon and maybe just some basic foam to catch larger particles. Get a good skimmer and you shouldnt have problems as far as filtration goes.

    Will make great SW setup!!!

Check tank for any latent Cu leeching due to possible FW meds used previously. -- deadly to all SW inverts.

    Good luck.

    Keep us posted.

    Have fun!

Is a canister filter considered a sump?
I've read some put live rock in the canister. Does that work well?
