    Hi all,

So after being out for WAY too long (few years) I am super anxious to get back in the hobby! This thread will be my build thread, starting from the VERY beginning, the planning stage!

I have just ordered a 48x24x24 120 gallon Perfecto tank, I will be building a custom stand for this once it arrives.

I have my mind (fairly) set on the following:

Tank/Stand: 120 Gallon with custom stand.. not sure if I'll build a canopy yet.

Overflow to sump: I will drill holes in the back of the tank, not sure yet on how many or where exactly.. Advise is welcome!

Lighting: (2x) Maxspect Razor 20.5", 10.000k (for best coral growth)

    Powerheads: (1x) Vortech MP40, (1x) Koralia 1050. More needed?

Sump: Currently undecided, I will very likely custom build one myself, based on what I can find on Craigslist.. The idea is to wait for someone to sell their 55/60 gallon tank/setup so I can purchase it with Live-rock included...

    Skimmer: Undecided

    Return Pump: Undecided

    All others: Undecided.

Stock: Reef, LPS, SPS & zoanthids. probably LPS/Zoanthid dominated..

Any and all feedback is welcome, I have a LOT left to figure out...

    Welcome back!

You should really look into Bean Animal with coast to coast overflow since you're already looking at drilling. Ive been running my tank with bean with c2c for a while now, I wouldnt go with anything else.

Also, youd like it way better with two MP40ws instead of one huge monster MP60. They work its wonders in sync with multiple VorTechs.

My bad.. I was going to go for (1) Mp40, I changed that in my original post. Could I get away with 1 or should I really go for multiple? (they're not cheap :))

After seeing the waves and water movement that two VorTechs create, I dont think I can go back to one.. I used to have only one in my 90 for a while tho.

You could always look for the second MP40 as used. I found a non ES version very cheap.

so exactlyobp, what is "Bean Animal with coast to coast overflow" I've been looking through your thread (which i had actually stumbled upon before, Great tank!!), but can't necessarily find what you are talking about..

I probably will go (2) mp40's.. Looks like I'm also getting a controller.. either a Reef Angel or Apex, I'm not sure yet....

Ok if you wanna learn about detail of Bean animal over flow, here is the link. If you are looking for the most effective, the most quiet, and safest overflow system, Bean is the way to go. Coast to coast overflow is most of the time incorporated with Bean, basically its a long overflow box.

Thanks for the compliment on my tank :)

Agreed. I just set up my 180g with a c2c and bean animal overflow, and love it. Quiet and safe. I looked at your build thread before I choose to do mine, and stole some of your ideas;D. My overflow does make a little noise because I added a toothed weir, not just glass, but I can live with it. It's the only way to go.

As soon as I figure out how to post some pictures, I will. When I was planning my build, there was t a whole lot of info out there, just the basics. So I had to kinda wing it and guess on heights and sizes of the overflow and such. I will get some pics up this weekend.

Alright! good stuff! Now I understand why you call it "Bean Animal" .

Out of context that looked so weird....

I actually picked up my 120 gallon tank yesterday, going to work really hard on finishing the room it will be in (mudding/sanding/painting/flooring) and then the real fun can begin... Stand Building!

No reason why I can't start the overflow building though :)
