Start out with a very small pin hole and then enlarge if needed. If it starts to pull a full siphon then the holes needs to be bigger. Drill in very small increments, and if you get them too big just use silicone to shrink them.

Use these for your standpipes as they are adjustable and will help with setting tank water height because the standpipes is what sets the water level.

The fingers in the OF is way too narrow for the GPH you are going to be moving. I would cut it off straight and add eggcrate so that you will not have ANY flow restriction and still be able to keep livestock out of the chamber. Also make the top of the OF before the eggcrate to be 1/4" to 1/2" below where the the visible part of the tank is (rim meets glass). You will set the tanks water height will how tall you make the standpips. Might be hard to understand until you see if run one time. If you keep the height to the OF tall then you will have the water up to the top of the rim and not be able to lower the water level any.
If you left it just like it is now and turned on a 5,000 gph pump it would pore over the edge of the tank on the floor due to the restrictions you have. A hammerhead raises my water 1.2" when I turn it on.

Check out this build and it may help with what I am trying to explain on the OF. New 180G and OM 4 Way/Dart/Omni Flex Nozzles

Systems looks pretty good so far. I like how you have all the plumbing bouncing the water off the far wall and back towards the OF. Should work great.

Progress, well, not really....I have one more Idea that I want to setup for the in tank piping, if it does not look good, I'm likely to purchase 4 more bulkheads and put all the piping out side of the tank with only nozzles inside...

I see what you are suggesting for the top of the overflow. We like to keep both the red and blue fire fish, would they swim through it?

Also, do you put anything inside the overflow to prevent a fish or ??? getting into the sump?

    Thanks,
    Joe

    Progress has begun...

Well, it has been too long....

I did not like the way the piping crossed and lifted off the bottom. After several different layups, I like it... Here is one side completed.

I ended up drilling and tapping the street elbow for 3/4" pipe and adding the 90 deg. snap lock elbow and nozzle. Then used two street elbows to get the alignment and pipe height correct. Followed this with some epoxy and sand to cover everything white...I don't want to ever see white pipe in the tank....

The other side, still in the jig, waiting for the epoxy to dry:

    I'll put it in tomorrow.

I found some black egg crate, BRS sells it, it will arrive any time. Here is how the overflows finished out, full up position, photo taken "eye level" with in the tank:

I believe that this is how you described how it should be... There is a 1/16 th inch whole drilled in the top cap.

(The insulation and studs will soon be removed to open access to the pump room and tank.)

For your tank return line to the sump, do you have them end above the sump level or below and do you have a shield (spray guard) to control salt creep due to bubbles or splashing?

Joe where is the overflow box ? The pipes have to set behind ? Looks like you can get by with a 2 sided L shaped one rather then a 3 sided U like one.

It is a center u shaped overflow, moved out of the way to show the overflow pipes...

Time to silly'cones it in :) Are the returns from sump coming in from the same area behind the overflow ?
