For the sump return lines: The plan calls for a 1/2 inch return to each corner of the tank. So, at the back of the tank, on either side next to the overflow, both will point down and use round snap lock nozzles. Then, at the front of the tank, (the end opposite the overflow), both will be in the corners, point back toward the overflow, along the surface, and use the flat snap lock nozzles.

For the closed loop, all 4 legs (8 3/4 inch nozzles) will all work to move water away from the the back of the tank, to and up the front of the tank.

When combined, it should all work to create a circular flow pattern along the length of the tank....

Bring them in the sump and run them all the way to the bottom once then you turn and go back up increase the size of the pipe (to release pressure in the water) and then bring it just below your water line. This will help keep all the bubbles at the top of the water and keep it from splashing around.

Looks like it is getting closer to water trial time.

    Delayed

It has been too long since I got some work done on this post...

The build has been delayed by a re-model of the basement, from the studs out, to include electric radiant heat under slate tile...

I know, no pics, it didn't happen...

    Getting to the studs:

    DT up date...

    Since the last post,

    • Set base using epoxy build up to level the tank on the slate floor.
    • Final setup of all bulkeds.
    • Final install of closed loop legs.
    • Final install of overflow piping and overflow.
    • Final build of hood, 2 legs of water return & sliding rail for light mount.
    • Re-Sealed all seams.
    • Final leak check of DT, bulkheads through to isolation valves.
    • Completed the trim work, including the baseboard...

So, here's what it looks like...

    Overflow in action

Otty, thank you for the recommendation to use the "Fix it" couplings in the overflow. They have worked out very well to allow me to adjust the balance between the refugum and the sump.

The Carib Sea Sand, 180#s and live rock, 160#s are now wet. Had to drain 15 gals from the system to accommodate the volume change.

The OM 4-Way valve seems stuck, must have gotten a bit of sand in it...I'll have to take it apart and clean it tomorrow.

Everything is too cloudy to take any pics, I'll see if I can get some tomorrow.

Pic's of the equipment room are in this thread: http://www.3reef.com/forums/filters-pumps-etc/equipment-room-not-48562-2.html#post753681

The tank has cleared and the OM 4-Way valve is now working. I may have to remove some sand from the tank as it is getting blown around quite a bit. On the left side of the following pic you can see how the sand is being washed away from the end glass...

I will have to keep a filter in place on the intakes for the closed loop until the sand storm settles down a bit. Or I'll be cleaning sand out of the OM valve every day... I very much like the magnet drive on the newer Ocean Motions 4-Way valve. When it get's jammed up with sand, it quietly slips with out damaging anything.

I just installed it on mine after I had a gear box go out but I bought my 4way used so no telling how old it really is. Nice updates you put up. :)
