I have been topping off a couple times a day since the final setup. This is an irritation I didn't see coming. I can count on my fingers the number of top-offs I have needed to give my aquapod in the year and a half it has been up.

    Evaporation is stupid.

Thanks for the compliments. Nothing exciting to report, but here is an updated tank shot. All the shots of the new tank so far have been with the camera phone. One of these days I will get out the other camera and take some decent macro shots.

Thanks Bama. I am enjoying the build a lot, but the cube is difficult to aquascape beyond a simple rock island.

sorry for the stupid noob question: it looks like you just filled your tank with SW on 4/27 or so, and now have some corals in it about 6 days later? did your tank cycle that fast or did you transplant from an existing tank or use some other technique to get the tank ready for coral quickly?

thanks for any answer - just trying to learn what i'm doing wrong...

The sand and tank is new. The water, live rock, and corals came from an existing system. This is the first time I have attempted to do something like this so I have been watching the parameters closely. So far the tank has not registered any ammonia, so no cycling. And the corals are loving the additional light.

The diatoms are moving in. I just tested the water...

    PH - 8.3
    Ammonia - 0 ppm
    Nitrite - 0 ppm
    Nitrate - < 5 ppm (down from about 10 a week ago)
    Phosphates - 0 ppm
    temp - 78 degrees

    And some updated pictures.

-Brew: I really like your photography. :) What camera do you use? I have a Nikon p90. I've got some pretty good shots, but wish I could come up with as cool ideas as you have. Haven't been able to get a chance at many macro shots either. :(

-Barbarossa: Nice build! Most people seem to think "bigger is better", but I like the simplicity of this nano tank. It's nice. Maybe put a smaller rock in-front of your drain line to create two caves and hide some of the pipe. Just an idea.
