I'm sorry for your loss. Hopefully, the tang will be it....I just got a kole tang and he only lasted about a week and didn't appear to even be sick :(

    Thank you.

Hopefully you're right, but the hippo and orchid dottyback have it the worst.

Yeah, he went really fast. From very healthy to gone in about a week. Never stopped eating, but got very thin, very fast.

    Thanks.

I haven't had the heart to tear it all down yet, and will use that as a last resort. The corals are doing well, and I don't want to disturb everything trying to catch fish.

Soooo, I used the 2-liter pop bottle trap idea. Have caught the blenny and the chalk bass so far. The others are pretty skittish, but are getting closer to it. I hope to have them all in a day or two.

    Vinnyboombatz Inspired Horizontal ATS

Installed a horizontal ATS after seeing Vinny's success with it. It's been up and running around 10 days, and I'm starting to see growth on it. Nothing that's green, but looks like a lot of cyano. Lots of bubbles forming on the plastic canvas. Not sure if that's a good thing or not.

The shape of the corner tank makes working in the stand difficult at best. My current sump layout is Fuge --> Return <--Skimmer, and I have a return pump to the display and a pump feeding the fuge. There's not any room to do a vertical ATS, but I thought I could hang a small horizontal one over the fuge section of my sump and feed it with the fuge pump.

I picked up a shallow WalMart storage tote (roughly 16" x 12" x 6") and put a bulk head in each end of it. I built a little feed header to even out the flow. It has 1/4" holes drilled along it on the bottom. I also picked up some plastic canvas, attached it to some egg crate with zip ties, and roughed it up with a hole saw. Here's the assembled picture. I have a union on the feed end for easy removal and cleaning. I have it sitting on some frag plug doughnuts to keep it off the bottom so there's good flow underneath it as well.

I have a 6,500K CFL that I'm using for a light and it sits pretty close to the water surface. I'm guessing 3-4" above it and to one end. I have another 6,500K CFL that is off to the side and is the light for my chaeto in the fuge.

Here's about 10 days into it. Already seeing quite a few pods living under it.

So far, so good. I'm not seeing a bit of cyano in the DT now. I'll qualify that by saying I was travelling quite a bit during this 10 day period, and I'm not sure how well my daughter did with daily feedings. I'll see how it goes and will post updates periodically.

Awesome!Yes I too saw lots of bubbles at the start and cyano formed rather quickly. It took approximately 2 weeks before I saw significant growth. After the first cleaning it took less then a week for the growth to reform.I am currently cleaning the screen once every two weeks and it is yucky!!lol How many gph are you running through it? I have approximately 700 gph running across the screen. You may also want to consider a 2700k bulb usually listed as warm white.Good luck.Subscribed.;D8)
