Slim to none is right. You really don't have to go hypo especially in the display tank. If you can catch the last one(maybe using two nets or have a helper), just go fallow for 3-4 months. Treat the QT with Prazi Pro(follow directions on bottle) and then after the fallow period acclimate fish back into the QT.

I didn't catch the rest of your thread and I don't know what caused the ich but I was reading an article on tank transfer. It has shown to be a proven method of defeating ich. Only downfall is it doesn't get the parasite once its inside the skin.

Just a thought to keep in the back of your brain.

I'm not sure Ich is something you ever technically rid your system of... it's more a matter of keeping the fish happy and healthy by proper water parameters and feeding. I personally have never had to deal with an outbreak though (knock on wood) so please take my words with a grain of salt... GL to you though, don't lose heart for sure. Even if it comes down to having a coral tank for a couple months it's well worth the wait. Been there twice myself, pretty sure i would have regretted a full tear down in frustration.

I do have a baby hippo i rescued from a tank crash tear down and his transfer was unfortunately not without stress. After a month+ qt and now going on almost 8 months in the DT (wow, didn't realize it's been that long) he's healthy as can be and has never had a bout with the stuff! maybe i'm just lucky

    Thanks Bruh.

I'm going to try going without feeding him for a week to see if I can get him into the trap with some brine shrimp. I just don't want to go too long and screw up my whole bio filter. I still planned to target feed the corals while the tank was fallow to keep everything running smooth. The only way to net him will be to rip out every rock. If that happens, this tank may never see rock again (or small fish). :)

I have two totes that I'm using for QT (one empty and one with the fish). I did the first transfer tonight and cleaned out the original tote. I guess i"m kind of combining hypo with tank transfer. I need to read up on transfer more, but it makes sense. Keep getting rid of the cysts before they spawn and eventually you'll be rid of the parasite.

BTW, I got the ich by not doing my research, listening to bad advice from my LFS, and by-passing the QT process. The text book example of how NOT to introduce a new fish to your tank. ;D

Nope, you were just diligent. That month+ of QT was the right choice. I skipped that step. :)

Well depending on how many fish you have, the transfer only lasts for 12 days. Just have salt ready and match salinity and temp(which I know you already know). After you sterilize the tote turn it upside down and let it dry fully and on the third day add the new salt. Are you using an air stone because if you are using a filter and not sterilizing it you are not helping the matter. If the 12 days don't work you could start the cycle again but that's allot of salt.

Yep, using an air stone only for water movement.

I only have about 15 gallons of water in the tote, so it wouldn't be a terrible amount of salt, especially if I dropped salinity down to 1.02ish ...

Thanks for the heads up on that. I haven't hit the point where holding pH is tough, but I'm getting close. I've been adding baking soda to keep the pH up, but that method sounds a lot easier and less stressful to both fish and aquarist. :)

Also keep some Prime or Ammo lock. If you are going to feed do it in small multiple amounts and use prime on the second and third day. Oh yea, on the fourth day make sure you transfer before 9 am. Thats usually the time the parasites start looking for hosts.

Will do, but I'm not sure I can hit that 9:00 AM target. That's about the time I'm getting my second cup of coffee. ;)

Thanks again for the insight and help.

Just trying to help out a fellow reefer. Maybe you can try to sneak it in between coffees.
