It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Depends on the type. Look at Anthias for Sale: Sunburst, Lyretail and other Anthias.

IME they can be moderately difficult to acclimate and picky eaters initially.

They do require more frequent feedings, twice a day at least.

You also need to make sure you get a trio of one male and 2 females to make it work out better.

Add tons of color and action to the tank, a great fish.

Cardinals can be very nocturnal so consider that.

    Hope that helps.

Thank you and it does help. I did not know that about Cardinals... That might change things. :)

I'll have to think about the Anthias a bit. I sometimes travel for 2-3 days at a time and am going to have to rely on an auto feeder during those times. They'd have to come around to flake/pellet, so I'll need to do a little more digging on success rates with that before I make the purchase.

Finally completed the T5 retrofits. Had to splice into the leads and make them a little longer so the ballasts can be underneath the tank in the stand.

Now just impatiently waiting for the cycle to finish. :biggrinbo

When i had my cardinal, he was pretty aggressive, when I fed, he came up to the top with the clowns, but again he was in the first batch of fish in my tank. He was out and about, and very cool to see, but not that active.

This was a cichlid tank before the conversion. After 6 years of constant chasing and nipping each other, a relatively inactive fish will ironically be a nice change of pace. :)

Love the look of the tank. Great rock work.

I think you could cut the T5HO usage in half and still be in great shape to keep anything you want IME. Too much lighting may end up in bleaching or fading of colors and slower growth.

I have a red fin fairy wrasse. They are listed as being a good substitute for Anthias since their feeding requirements are less specialized. They are supposed to be a good schooling fish also. Might give you a decent alternative since you have the travel issues.

    Thank you.

That's a challenge with this set-up. Each ballast powers two T5's, and unfortunately, the ballasts won't power only one lamp. It powers down after about 10 secs. I could pull both the 36" T5's in the middle or run one 36" and one 24" though (that size ballast will power either/or in combination).

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll take a look at them.

I added an uncooked shrimp and a full dose of StartSmart to my tank a week ago. I was at 0 ppm NH3, 1 ppm NO2, and 10 ppm NO3 within two days, and I pulled the shrimp at that time. Since then, my params haven't changed.

    Currently...

    SG: 1.023
    Temp: 77 deg
    pH: 8.0
    NH3: 0 ppm
    NO2: 1 ppm
    NO3: 10 ppm
    Phos: 0.25 ppm
    Ca: 460 ppm
    Alk: 11 dKH

Has my cycle stalled without an ammonia source? I've been waiting for the NO2 to hit zero before putting the shrimp back in...
