Is it from not using RO/DI water? Or, our guess was too much natural night coming through the windows, along with the tank light. Our 20 gal tank isn't the best of set ups, but it was our start.

Chances are any tap water you will use has phosphates in it & will cause issues with Algae that's why we all use RO water not sure about American water but the DI isn't necessary in most of Australia.
Diatoms are usually a brown powdery type algae mostly on your sand & Cyano is usually a red slimey algae.
I had terrible issues with Cyano until I got My PO4 under control.

natural light and over feeding with contribute to cyano doesnt look like diatioms which is normally what you get from not using RO/DI water. I used tap water when i had my first set-up and it was painful all the algae lol.

I just feed them a pinch once a day, when hubby isn't home. He feeds them a pinch of food and later in the day some shrimp (the frozen kind) when he is home. Maybe my pinches are too big?

It was much worse before we cut back on the lighting. Hubby cleaned it up and we kept the lights turned off (at first he covered it with a blanket too). He has been kept at bay since we started that, but I think it is growing again.

you only have 2 clowns for fish? i would cut back to one kind of food and only once a day and do a large water change that should help.

    Ok, will do.

Yeah. We just stuck with the clowns until we could set up our big tank. I know hubby wants to get a blue and yellow tang. He also likes, is it a Fire Hawk? And I like the mandarin goby (of course, I know we will have to be sure to have plenty of copepods established), and there is another goby that hubby liked, but I can't remember the name. It has been so long since I have even thought about adding fish, I can't remember for sure what we liked. lol The more color, the more I like it. lol
