Thanks. Ooooh, I'm not even thinking of fish eating different kinds of foods. How convenient is seaweed?

I talked to our LFS and because we have the fire shrimp, we won't be getting the dog face puffer. We are finally down to the nitty-gritty with our set up and we keep finding things we need. lol (i.e., the RO/DI filter, then the garbage cans to mix the water in, we already planned on getting more live rock (our LFS said with our set up, we should be fine with 25 lbs of live rock, we already have a 9 lb), and now I'm reading up on live rock set up and a lot of people are laying down egg crate, and something about PVC pipes?) Oh boy. lol

I won't like, it's still fun. It's like a Science Project for us. Lots of research and trial and error. Love it.

Thank you leighton and Rick for all your help in this thread!

No problem at all, you can use PVC to set your LR on or egg crate from home depot and cut to fit set the LR on it then pour the sand in (sorry i went back and read over it again lol you already have it running you can still use pvc to set the rock on just push it to the bottom in the sand). You can get garbage cans there also i have 2 setting in my house one empty and one full of RO/DI water and I switch them out when i empty one to ensure i can wash one and I am putting 0TDS water in my system. As for LR how many gallons is your tank again? Normally 1-1.5lbs of rock per gallon so if you have a 10gal tank i would use about 3lbs of LR and the rest base rock which is dry rock and much cheaper because it will become live from the other rock seeding it.

Seaweed you can get at and LFS if you get a tang try to grab the seaweed with garlic in it good for there immune system. :)

To answer your original question, the 90 GPD Spectrapure RO/DI will fit your needs nicely. Its the best you can buy and BRS does not have anything that compares to it.

Looks like the still have a few of the $120 systems left, if not the $199 CSPDI is also a good deal. I use the MaxCap systems myself and love the fact the DI seems to last forever. Spectrapure is top of the line.

Thank you AZ. I called another LFS and she was like "oh you would need 150 gallon, that won't be big enough, blah blah blah", I don't really think she knew what I was talking about, but then again, she said all they used was tap water and treated it with some sponge stuff? Eh, I like the idea of using one, and actually, I'm hoping to get one of those refurbished ones. Is there a good link that shows how to set it up, like we don't have a garage or a place to set up specifically, so, how would we do it?

    Hi
Heres a link on how to setup an RO/DI filter if you need to break into a waterline somewhere Melevsreef.com - 100gpd RO/DI Installation
Its much easier if you just hook a hose from a tap & feed the water in that way, most people put them in their laundry & use the laundry taps, also I'm not sure if your aware but there is another line that comes from the filter which drains away the waste water that can either be put in a drain or use it on the garden somewhere.
I bought extra pipe & I run the waste water to a Lime tree as you waste as much water as you make with the RO filters & its just terrible wasting water like that.

Spectrapure has dozens of hook up diagrams and all their owners manuals right on their website for all to see. You can find the refurbished systems manual listed under "Manuals" at the top of the page here:
    SpectraPure Water Purification Products
Scroll down to "RO/DI Systems" then to "MPDI".
You can also find generic hook up suggestions on the right side of the main page under "Tech Support", "Hook Up Diagarms".
You will also find lots of good information under the "FAQ" section at the top of the page.

A RO or RO/DI can be used portable with a simple faucet adapter but be aware they take a long time to make water, the 90 GPD is 90 gallons in a full 24 hour day or about 3 gallons and hour so it may be better on a little used bathroom faucet or a laundry sink faucet if you have one. Along the left side of the Spectrapure main page they have a "Misc Parts- Tanks, faucets, fittings and housings", in there you will find "Feed Valves and Drain Saddles" which show several options on how to install one either temporary or permanent. If you have room under the sink a permanent installation with the feed water adapter is a good option.

Spectrapure can walk you through whatever you decide to do and offer suggestions to make things easy.
