I am going to start my sump in the basement build.
I figured I would start by asking some questions.
What I want to know is if anybody has seen or thought of anything besides the normal refugium or mangrove set up that could be beneficial to a reef. What I am looking for is anything natural not "add a calcium reactor" ect.....

One thing I was thinking of (going out on a limb here)
Is a Area to house like 20 peppermint shrimp where they would live without predators and spawn to feed the tank. My Anthia's would love that. Since peppermint shrimp eat copopods this small tank would not be part of the refugium. It would get its water source from the sump. Yes I know they would get some of the copopods but they would not be in the refugium where one main benefit of the fuge is copopods can live without predators.

This might be crazy and there might be drawbacks but thats what I would like to discuss.

I have a 10' x 20' room I can do anything I want for my sump in so the options are pretty huge!

Any comments good or bad would be appreciated.
And I promise to keep this updated with pics.

nocturnal system, tank that stays dark. only animals that filter the water for food can live there thus cleaning the water making a nocturnal system beneficial also fun to check out with a flash light.i would take a piece of live rock out my tank that doesnt get light and put it in a 55g with 70 lbs or more live rock to seed it and in the dark sumwhere

Egg cycle every 10 to 12 days and are ready to spawn 9-11 days after that (I think)
